A new roof under solar panels in Los Angeles
When the roof under your panels needs replacing, we take the system down first and put it back on the new roof after. Not solar yet? If the roof needs work first, the roof check says so.
About an hour at your house, on a day you pick. Your price comes inside your plan.
What we handle for you
- We pull the permit and book inspections.
- We deal with LADWP or Edison for you.
- We call you back the same business day.
A roof often wears out before the panels on it do. So the roof and the solar get planned together, whichever comes first: a new roof before the panels go up, or the panels off and back on around a new roof.
Going solar on a roof that needs work
If the roof needs work before panels go on, you hear it at the roof check, priced in the same plan. A roof laid over an older one can change what the city asks for, and sometimes the honest answer is a new roof first.

When the panels are already up
- The roof needs replacing and the array sits on top of it
- A leak under the panels can't be reached with them in place
- Tiles under the array have cracked or slipped
- A roofer has quoted the new roof and won't touch the panels
- You're adding a room or a second story under part of the array
One person, start to finish
One project manager runs your job and texts you at every step.
- Callback
- The same business day you call or send your address.
- Updates
- A text each time a step is done, and a reply when you text in.
How the panels come off and go back
- A look at the system. We check that it works before anything comes down, and note how the array is laid out and wired, so it goes back up the same way.
- Your price. Written down before we touch the system. If the new roof is in our plan, it's priced there. If you've already booked a roofer, we work to their dates.
- Removal. We switch the system off before the array comes down, and we keep the panels until the roof is done.
- The new roof. Your project manager keeps track of its dates and texts you before we come back.
- Reinstall. The mounts go back into the new roofing, each one flashed under it, and the array goes back up and is reconnected.
- Inspection and switch-on. Where the city wants a permit for the reinstall, we file it and meet the inspector. If your utility needs paperwork before the system runs again, we send it and chase it.
When the panels are back
Your system is back on the new roof, with new flashing at every mount, and runs once it's cleared to switch back on. Our work is covered from the day we do it.
What people ask about a new roof and solar
Does putting the panels back need a permit?
Often, yes. The city decides by address and by what changes. When one is needed, we file it, and the city bills its fee to you directly.
When do the panels go back up?
Once the roof work is done. Your project manager books the removal and the reinstall around the roof dates and texts you before each one.
My installer is gone. Can you still do this?
Yes. We take down and put back systems we didn't install. The old company's workmanship warranty stays with the old company, and ours starts the day we do the work.
